Once Upon A Time!

Why do I love reading and writing?

I get asked this question so many times, and so many times do I love to tell people. The reason I love to read is because there is nothing better than finding a good book curling up on the sofa or bed and reading until the point you have to move because you have either got a stich, or you need a top up of wine. I like to read many kinds of genre's, paranormal, action, romance, menacing, erotic, sweet, anything that catches my eye.

Thankfully I have many wonderful author friends, and being on social media connecting with some great sites I get to see new books being promoted, I read reviews, see what takes my fancy and if I like I'll certainly download and read it. Sometimes a cover will grab my attention, but don't get me wrong if the blurb, teasers or excerpts catch my eye I will read whether a catching cover or not.

If I read a book to help an author I always review and give a star rating
even if I didn't enjoy it. I like to be honest and share my views with readers and writers.

Why do I love writing?

Wow, what a question. The truth is I don't think I know anything different. I have been writing since being a little girl. The characters constantly talking inside my head driving me crazy. What I find incredible about being a writer is when  the hero or heroine just take control and force me to write their story. I never know where they are going to lead me. I always recall my English teacher in secondary school telling us to write beginning, middle and end...was she really kidding me? Okay lets just say I can plot (which I don't) and the characters talk clearly and comfortably in my head....then without warning, boom change in direction, add a twist, throw me of balance and take me down a very different road so all that plotting I had written down, wasted. Sorry English teacher you talked poo.

So what happens when thinking about stringing the characters together

1/ Where do the characters meet and how?
2/ what is their response to one another, do they instantly fall in love, does the person have something remarkable that makes then stand out from the rest?
3/ Describe the characters, what they look like what they are wearing.
4/ Are they smiling or looking at the character like an alien?
5/ What is the next step, the setting, are they disturbed, do they walk away.

What is important is making the scene real, making it believable, casting the setting, weather, are they surrounded by others, are they alone, are they in a park walking their dogs. What is the next step or isn't there one, whatever you decide as the writer you need to show proof, cough up and spill the beans. Maybe there meeting was an eventful one maybe they walked into one another and they were annoyed. It's keeping the readers interest which is important.

Once as the writer you have established them meeting now it's time to keep it flowing, do they meet up again and find they clash, not all couples are perfect, they can argue, have differences, she likes blue he likes yellow

1/ Build the characters create a war or maybe she's out her depth, and think he or she is far too good for the other.
2/ Who or what gets in between their relationship. I sense a wicked conflict here, go for it don't be afraid!
3/ Do they love one another to see through the bad times and travel to the good.

For me a writer must keep your attention, make the book a page turner, whether it's a love story, action, paranormal, whatever genre you write, keep it interesting. for me most of the time the characters are scheming, they hide things up their sleeves without consulting me.

Now for my recent release Innocence, wow this book had my head sent into a whirlwind, I had no idea what was going to happen, and therefore if I don't know how is the reader?

Innocence came from the heart gut wrenching, heart breaking, plenty of tears and emotion, yet there are giggles and Calvin trying to be sweet and take good care of Kacey. When writing this story it had me the writer in tears, if that can happen to me, think what it can do for the reader, but all the time throughout writing this serious never did the characters top talking, they kept going like a rollercoaster. Innocence is a very different genre for me, but heck I love the fact I can put my mind to other genre's

Fabulous Week!

Thea Louise and Jacob Luke
Christening day 16.8.15

Wow what an amazing week I have had celebrating my twin eight month old grandbabies christening last Sunday, they were so good, content and happy, they even managed to have the vicar laughing, so full of smiles and joy, making me the proudest nana in the world. I will confess since their arrival my world has been filled with smiles, even when I'm grumpy they can turn my miserable face into happiness, especially when they are being cheeky.

I adore spending my free time with these little monkeys.

I have also celebrated my birthday, yes 21 again, I wish! No actually I am happy being the age I am 41, having learned so many new things about life, writing, reading and being where I am in my hobby, signing up for book signings after being overwhelmed and humbled at the Birmingham signing in July, it made me realize just how much my writing means to me, not only that meeting some wonderful new people, authors, bloggers, readers, just amazing and cannot wait to experience it all again.

I have also received the cover for book 2 in the Innocence series 'Innocence Of Love' truly magnificent and cannot wait to share it with you all, but will be doing that closer to the release date. Also heard from my editor who is loving the book. Also warms my heart when someone says something good about my book.

The innocence series will come as

Book 1. Innocence OUT NOW
Book 2. Innocence of love COMING SOON
Book 3. Breaking Innocence
Book 4. Return To Innocence

Only she finds what she’d pushed to the back of her mind through selfish pain is back. Her past with all its mistakes has come back to life!

Excerpt

He had never been alone, but he could imagine how lonely it would be without friends or family to support or help you in your hour of need.

“Yes, I agree. But you must remember you caught her in a desperate situation. I am sure she might have still jumped and taken her life regardless of your words, they wouldn’t have changed her actions, especially if she felt that low. We all hit rock bottom and some people manage to take their lives, but clearly something was preventing her from doing so.”

“Yes, but I believe in helping someone when they are at their weakest and she is, not that I have put myself out in the past. If anything, I have stayed well out of any personal issues unless it affects the job,” he added staring at Ross. “And yes, there was a serious reason for her to stop her actions. And yes, I will admit I had to convince her jumping would not be the answer, but the poor girl was in clear distress, sobbing her heart out and all I could think was about her jumping and me having to jump in after her. I would have, of course. There was no way I would stand by and watch her take her life, and not just hers.” Calvin closed his eyes and sensed her grief.

“What do you mean? Not just hers!” Ross asked.

Calvin turned back to look at him.

“She is expecting.”

He watched Ross widen his eyes in shock.

“What?”

“She is seven months pregnant. She has nothing, and there is no chance of her getting a job. I would agree with her no one would take her on in her condition.”

“Bloody hell, Calvin, why the hell didn’t you mention this earlier? Here I’m thinking she is some sad bitch, full of self-pity and yet you are dealing with an emotional expectant mother. Did you say her parents lived in the village?”

“I think so, she’s being vague,” he said, cocking his head to the side. “She denied it when I asked her in the pub, but after speaking to her it sounded certain they do live here.”

“And you assume that by?”

“She mentioned she’d been to her parents’ house and they slammed the door in her face. I am not totally stupid. She tensed up and didn’t wish to answer all my questions which, in reflection, was understandable. She’d been through so much I didn’t wish to argue with her, and I could see she was tired and had the weight of the world on her shoulders which wouldn’t be good for the baby. I want to try and get her to talk to her parents again. I feel it is my duty.” He looked at Ross, he could see him thinking hard about the news he had received.

“And you’re certain her parents live in the village?”

“Yes, they must or very close!”

“Did she grow up here?”

“I assume so.”

“Do you recognise her?” Calvin tilted his head to the side when Ross continued to bombard him. “Do we know her parents?”

“For God sake, Ross, stop with the twenty million questions. I didn’t wish to push her. All I cared about was getting her rested, somewhere safe to put her head, and think about a few things.”

“Do you think she’s unpredictable?” Stop with the questions for goodness sake.

Calvin shrugged his shoulders unable to honestly answer the question.

“My goodness, Calvin, you really need to tread carefully. She might see you as an easy target and be looking for someone to take on the role of fatherhood.”

“Hang on. Don’t talk rubbish. I am trying to simply, help her out. She needs help and not only that, but she talked earlier about giving the baby up for adoption,” he told him needing to clear the facts.

“Adoption. That might be a wise move, if not in foster care.”

Calvin turned his head and looked disgusted at him. He understood it appeared the reasonable option at the moment, but sensed it wasn’t a decision to be taken lightly. Much thought needed to go into handing a baby over. There was no way he could ever hand his baby over, but then his life wasn’t at rock-bottom.

“Don’t look at me in that way, clearly she has nothing and putting the child in a safe environment until she gets back on her feet would be a wise move. I have seen women think they can cope and end up in serious trouble, some even turning to desperate measures.”

“Are you crazy? How can a mother be expected to give away her child that she has carried for nine months. That is ridiculous,” Calvin snarled at him.

5 Star review

Well I’ve enjoyed all of Holly ‘s previous books ,but this one was written in a completely different direction to her others . I wasn’t sure what to expect . Well what can I say other than ‘when is book two out’ . Loved it from beginning to end , you could feel both of their pain on the decisions life had put in front of them .not sure where to go who to turn too, yet she came through it all and is still fighting. What a roller coaster ride she had ,then after all those years she meets a man who seems to care about her ,like no one has for such a long time ,only to find he was the someone she had to run away from ,frightened he would disown her like her mother did . Bringing her mother to mind as someone I would like to disown , treating her daughter the way she did ,leaving her homeless , helpless on the streets vulnerable .while she carries on leading a normal life .. what amazes me is they all feel there suffering more ! They haven’t lived the life of hell she has ,quitting her family ,giving something precious up ..well without telling you the whole story , this was a book I enjoyed from beginning till end ….

I’m a wife, mum of three all grown up and fleeing their nests and I’m a proud nana to twins. I live in England a town called Grimsby where I work as a care assistant in a residential home. I enjoy spending quality time with my family. Me and hubby have a secret hideaway for peace and quiet in a sweet idyllic campsite were we like to pitch a tent close to York one of my favourite cities. I enjoy touring around the UK, sight-seeing, visiting stately homes and castles. Hobbies I like to read and write. I have been writing since being a young girl, always having a wild imagination which never ceases to amaze me. When writing I am not committed to one genre I like to move around wherever my mood takes me. I currently have an erotic series out called Desires about a sex club. And finally I have a terrible sweet tooth especially when it comes to treacle sponge.

Book Release Blitz For Innocence

Wow, time is just rushing by I cannot believe we are already into August and have overheard people talking about buying Christmas presents, personally I buy like a week before, leaving everything to the last minute, but this year I have plans, big plans to get organized.

I have this month some amazing events my grandbabies. I am grateful enough to have twins a girl and boy and they have a big day approaching their christening, I cannot believe they are already eight months old, rolling over, attempting to sit on their own, their smiles on their cheeky faces is enough to melt my heart. My daughter brought a t-shirt for my grandson saying 'mum says no but nana says yes' I will confess once I see them, I just give in, well what's the use in being a nana if you cannot spoil them? I have my own birthday coming up with a holiday and fingers crossed me and hubby are going camping. Yes, I love camping, we have found a super spot close to York England where no under sixteen's are allowed, a small idyllic setting with a large fishing pond, my hubby gets to fish while I sit and write or read with nothing but the sound of the birds and the blowing of the trees to annoy me. My idea of heaven!

Where am I with my books? Well I am super excited as I have sent of the cover art questions to my publisher for the front cover of Innocence Of Love, book 2 in the Innocence series, now with book 2 looming in the background and with the editor its soon going to be hyping up, exciting times.

Now first, I have book 1 to shout out, get out in the big wide world and I have teamed with Book Pimpers to do a Book Release Blitz five day book tour to celebrate the 1st book in the series Innocence.

I am calling on author, bloggers, readers, anyone who might be able to precipitate in the tour, even if its just a tweet, anything just to help boost for this sweet adult romance series, that's full of emotion

Review of Amazon US

Wow! Innocence is an emotionally-charged read from the first page to the last. I could not stop reading. This is not a pretty story, but one of rough, edgy feelings that had me sheading a few tears. I fell in love with Calvin, a man who is not afraid to show his feelings and acknowledge his pain. While this story has strong romantic elements, it is a tale of the consequences of decisions made in the past and how they affect Kacey’s life irrevocably. I look forward to continuing her life’s journey in the next books in the series.

Now to take part all I ask is for you to sign up by using this link Book Release Blitz for Innocence. I look forward to any help received.

Happy reading! Happy writing!

Blurb

For years, Alyssa has been going to bed with a memory. Is she ready to wake up with a fantasy?

Some people wait their whole lives to find their soul mate, but not Alyssa Barrow. She met Rob at sixteen, and they were set to live happily ever after—until he became ill. In his final days, Rob urged his beautiful, young wife not to abandon happiness—or pleasure. He even left her a special gift, a sexy game plan to help her move on: Thirty cards with instructions for thirty days of passion. You’ll know when the time is right, he’d said. Now it’s two years later, and when Alyssa meets her hot new neighbor, Harrison Kemp, she begins to think the right time is right now…

From his sculpted thighs to his devilish grin, Harrison is the kind of man women want. Before she can lose her nerve, Alyssa tells Harrison about her long-ignored cards…and asks him to help her fulfill them. It’s a favor he’s more than happy to, um, perform. With his skillful touch, and the hot press of his lips against her skin, Alyssa finds herself re-awakening to life—and a host of other sensations. But what began as not-so-innocent fun soon grows into true intimacy, and Alyssa realizes she’s opening herself up not just to sex…but to love. When it comes to a future with Harrison, what’s really in the cards?

Saucy, heartwarming, and insightful, 30 Days explores the agony—and the ecstasy—of starting over, and how a little encouragement, and a little courage, can go a long way…

Excerpt #1

Being on my own was . . . strange. Rob had been gone nearly two years and I still found myself turning to say something to him at the weirdest times. Though over the past month that started happening less frequently. I couldn’t tell you exactly how I felt about that. Guilty? Oh my God yes. But I knew it meant I’d finally started to move on. I hadn’t told anyone about my mental shift. Instead, I found myself going to this quiet place in my head, speaking less, observing more. It was different. I guess I’d become different more out of necessity than any real desire to change.

We’d known his time was coming to an end and took the last month of his life to simply enjoy each other. It was on one of our various trips to the beach that he handed me The Envelope.

“What’s this?” My fingers were damp from the ocean spray and sticky from the ice cream I’d just finished. “If this is some death letter thing, I can’t read it.”

He grinned at that. “Naw, it’s not sappy or anything. But yes, it’s for after I’m gone.”

“Rob—”

“Lyssa, listen to me. I promise you it’s not what you think.” He huffed, puffing out his shallow cheeks. “How many guys have you slept with?” The breeze moved his shirt and the sun made his brown eyes sparkle. If he had any hair left it would have blown from his forehead. My heart ached to run my hands through his hair once more. “And if you say more than one I’ll promise not to be pissed.”

“Don’t be an ass. You know you’re the only man I’ve ever been with.” We’d talked a lot about that after we’d gotten married. Rob had a small measure of guilt that I hadn’t had a chance to sow my oats. Somehow he thought because of my limited dating experience I would get bored or grow to resent him.

The idiot.

“That’s my point.” He took my hand and pressed the envelope into my palm once more. “Don’t open this until you’re ready. Hell, you might not want to open it at all. Just . . .” He gave my hand a squeeze, but for the first time in a long while, he couldn’t meet my gaze. “I know you said you didn’t think you’d want to be with anyone else.”

“I don’t.” The thought made me ill.

“Baby, you shouldn’t be alone. You have too much light and love inside you. The thought of you being on your own, of not having anyone to share in the joy you have to give? No. I know you. There will come a time when you’ll realize that you’re ready to move on—”

“I won’t.”

“—and I know you’ll feel guilty about that. You’ll ignore the feelings for as long as you can, thinking that you don’t need anyone. Then something will happen. You’ll see someone and in that beautiful brain of yours you’ll be all nice ass, dude, and that will be it. You’ll cry about it but you’ll realize you’re ready.”

“Please. I wouldn’t cry.” Because it wouldn’t happen. Ever. “Not over a nice ass.”

He chuckled, finally looking me in the eye. “You’ll cry. But then you’ll remember this conversation and know that I was right. So I’m going to say I told you so now. Then I want you to take this envelope and open it.”

“Rob—”

“It’s about sex.”
